Tips for Preparing for Lambing - Data Collection

Data is everything when establishing a plan for on-farm management change. Try to gather as much as you can – anything is valuable. Making sure the whole team is on board is key to success and is a big motivator for everyone to try to contribute to the end goal.
Tag lambs where possible; this allows you to assign an enormous volume of data to individual lambs, allowing for selection of beneficial traits in kept replacements and enabling thoughtful changes to farm practices in the future.
Some farms use written records, some use phone apps, and others use a central WhatsApp group to collect all information at the end of the season. The ‘how’ doesn’t really matter – find the easiest way for you and stick to it!
