Matthew Anderson
BVetMed MRCVS
Large Animal Vet and Consultant
Matthew brings a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to farm animal health, shaped by both rigorous veterinary training and practical farming experience. A graduate of the Royal Veterinary College, he’s dedicated himself exclusively to large animal practice in his native North East of England.
Matthew’s farming journey began modestly with a few chickens for local egg sales, despite being allergic to them(!), and has evolved into managing cattle, sheep, and bees alongside a no-dig vegetable garden. This hands-on experience provides him with genuine insight into the daily decisions farmers face, from grazing management to business sustainability.
Matthew’s perspective on agricultural systems was shaped during veterinary school, where criticism of farming prompted him to investigate the real role of livestock in food systems and environmental stewardship. Rather than accepting conventional wisdom, he has explored diverse farming approaches – conventional, organic, and regenerative – with an open mind, focusing on what actually delivers results.
His interest in how historical and economic forces shape agriculture gives him a unique lens for understanding current farming challenges. Matthew believes effective veterinary advice must be grounded in a real-world context rather than theoretical ideals.
At Ruminant Revival, Matthew is passionate about helping farmers maximise their livestock’s potential, not just as food producers, but as integral components of healthy soils, diverse ecosystems, and resilient farm businesses that can thrive in an ever-changing agricultural landscape.
