Charli Lloyd
BVSc MRCVS
Mixed Practice Vet, Farmer and Consultant
Charli embodies Ruminant Revival’s philosophy that the best veterinary advice comes from understanding farming from the inside out. Since graduating from the University of Liverpool in 2020, she has combined clinical practice with hands-on farming experience, providing her with unique insight into the challenges facing modern agriculture.
Growing up on her family’s commercial sheep farm in Herefordshire, Charli developed an early appreciation for livestock management. Her international experience across UK, Australian, and New Zealand farming systems broadened her perspective on breeding animals adapted to their environment, a cornerstone of sustainable agriculture.
Working in Cumbria, Charli champions the whole-farm approach that defines Ruminant Revival’s methodology. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, she focuses on addressing root causes through careful observation and system-wide improvements. Her involvement in farmer discussion groups and on-farm talks reflects her commitment to knowledge sharing and peer learning.
Charli’s work on genetics and epigenetics demonstrates how environmental factors and management practices influence animal performance, showing that breeding for resilience often matters more than breeding for maximum production. This aligns perfectly with Ruminant Revival’s evidence-based approach to building robust livestock systems.
On her own farm, Charli and her partner practice what they preach, using rotational grazing and low-input methods to rear sheep and pigs for direct sale. Their journey toward establishing an on-farm butchery reflects their commitment to local food systems and adding value at the farm gate.
