As the 2025 edition of GB Calf Week starts, we’re delighted to announce that three new vet consultants are joining the team – exciting times for us at Ruminant Revival, the UK’s pioneering vet-led consultancy driving sustainable livestock production.

Our new team members are Cam Collins BVM&S MSc MRCVS, Ali Haggerty BVMS CertAVP MVM MRCVS and Ed Hill BVMS Cert AVP (sheep) MRCVS.

Also, this week, we’re showcasing recent research by Cam demonstrating the substantial benefits of keeping dairy calves with their mothers for extended periods. A new case study based on work with CW Farm Vets at LG Farm showcases remarkable improvements when dairy calves remained with their mothers for three weeks compared to conventional early separation practices. Pneumonia rates plummeted from ~30% to 2% in calves kept at foot, three-week-old calves’ average weights increased from 45-55kg to 70-90kg, and premium pricing was achieved, with suckled calves commanding £350 per head compared to conventionally reared eight-week-old calf crops at £250 per head.

Introducing the new team

We’re delighted to welcome Cam to Ruminant’s growing team. He brings a Master’s degree with Distinction in Sustainable Agriculture from Aberystwyth University, where his research compared the effects of ruminant grazing systems on dung beetle populations.

Alongside Cam, are Ali Haggerty and Ed Hill. Ali joins us with over 15 years of clinical experience and RCVS Advance Practitioner status in Cattle Health and Production. Ed contributes deep practical knowledge as Director at Thrums Vets in Angus and Perthshire, holding the Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in Sheep and Health production.
